Google has announced the introduction of the Nest Hub (2nd-gen) with additional features to improve on the original Nest Hub (2018). The smart display incorporates the audio technology from the Nest Audio plus 50-percent more bass than the original hub and support Quick Gestures to allow the user pause or play content using air gestures in front of the screen.
The Nest Hub (2nd-gen) features a 7-inch LCD touchscreen display, dedicated on-device machine learning chip and built-in Thread radio to ensure compatibility with new standards that connects all smart home devices and products. The new Sleep Sensing opt-in feature which uses Soli-powered Motion Sense to understand the user’s sleeping pattern by considering factors such as breathing, movement, and different sources of sleep disturbance.
The pattern is captured by the Hub’s built-in microphones (3x), ambient light and temperature sensors, and the user gets a daily personalised sleep data summary. Sleep sensing also recommends better bedtime schedules and personalised sleeping suggestions developed by sleep scientists.
As part of Google’s commitment to privacy, the feature is optional and there is an indicator which shows when it is enabled. User can also decide to disable the microphones using the physical kill switch. The Nest Hub (2nd-Gen) is available in Australia (AU$ 149), Canada (CAD 129.99), France (EUR 99.99), Germany (EUR 99.99), the UK (GBP 89.99) and US (US$ 99.99). It is available in Chalk, Charcoal, Mist and Sand colours.
