Google has officially announced the Nexus 5X, the successor to the also LG-made Google Nexus 5 which made its debut around two years ago. This device model has a polycarbonate body build and ushers in the era of Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS to Android devices.
Moving to the key specs, the Google Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD), a pixel density of 424ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, it is powered by an Hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor clocked up to 2.0GHz with 2GB RAM and either 16GB or 32GB native storage space.
Unlike previous Nexus devices which doesn’t excel at the camera segment. The device has a 12.3MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.55µm pixels. The front camera is a 5MP snapper with f/2.2 lens for selfies and video chats. The camera app supports the new Camera 3.0 API with faster capture speeds and all-around improvements to speed and quality.
You should know the camera on the Google Nexus 5X does not have Optical image stabilisation (OIS), there is no microSD card slot for storage expansion and by double tapping on the home button launches the camera app. The one-tap fingerprint scanner (Nexus Imprint) is located just below the main camera and works with Android Pay.
Connectivity options on the Nexus 5X includes – Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2×2 MIMO), GPS/GLONASS and support for 4G LTE bands of all the major carriers in the US. It is backed by a 2700mAh battery which doesn’t have wireless charging but has the USB Type-C Port onboard for charging up.
It measures 147 x 72.6 x 7.9mm in dimensions and weighs around 136 grams. Pricing for the Google Nexus 5X starts at $379 for the 16GB model and $429 for the 32GB model; the device is available immediately from the Google Play Store and works with Google’s Project Fi in the US.
