Today, Google officially unveiled its second-generation ‘made by Google’ Pixel phones: the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL, alongside other consumer hardware products: the Pixel Buds, Google Home Mini and Max, Google Clips hands-free camera, updated Daydream View headset and Google PixelBook.
The new Pixels 2 smartphones come pre-loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo and Google products such as Google Assistant, Lens and Photos. It packs the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core mobile platform paired with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB built-in expandable storage.
Google has also promised free unlimited storage for all photos and videos taken on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, and a new Pixel-exclusive ‘Now Playing’ feature now informs the user about songs playing around with the view to matching them with those stores on the device.
Google Pixel 2
The Google Pixel 2 has a 5-inch cinematic OLED display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and comes in Clearly White, Just Black and Kinda Blue colours. It’s Aluminium unibody with hybrid coating is IP67-certified (water and dust resistance) and a 2,700mAh battery provides the much needed autonomy.
For photography, the device features a rear 12.2MP camera with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, EIS, LED flash, Laser + Dual Pixel Phase Detection, f/1.8 aperture and 4K video recording. The front Selfie camera is a 8MP snapper with f/2.4 aperture. Both cameras have 1.4μm pixel size and the fingerprint sensor is just below the main camera.
Google Pixel 2 XL
The Google Pixel 2 XL only has a bigger 6-inch display (2880 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD+ P-OLED 18:9 Full Screen display and a 3,520mAh battery. The rest of the specs is the same as the Pixel 2 and it will arrive in Just Black or Black with White colour options.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Pixel 2 starts at US$ 649 for the 64GB model and US$ 749 for the 128GB model while the Pixel 2 XL starts at US$ 849 for the 64GB version and $949 for the 128GB version. The duo will be available at first in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and India, and later this year in Italy, Singapore and Spain.
