At the I/O 2019, Google announced the latest members of the Pixel family – the Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 3a XL. Housed in polycarbonate body, both budget-conscious devices have a 3.5mm audio jack, USB 2.0 Type-C port, 4GB of RAM, 64GB built-in storage, Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 mobile platform and come pre-loaded with Android 9.0 Pie with custom-made Titan M security chip and security patches for three years.
Priced starting at $399, the Google Pixel 3a has a 5.6-inch FHD+ 18.5:9 OLED Always-on display with 100,000:1 super contrast ratio, rear fingerprint sensor and 3,000mAh battery with both USB-C 18W fast charging and 18W adaptor with USB-PD 2.0. The Google Pixel 3a XL has a larger 6-inch OLED Always-On display with DragonTrail glass and 3,700mAh battery with the same fast charging capability (pricing starts at $479).
Photography is handled by a primary 12.2 MP (f/1.8, 1.4μm, OIS) dual-pixel rear camera with 76-degree field of degree and 8MP (f/2.0, 1.12μm) selfie camera with 84-degree field of view. Camera features include Portrait mode (rear and front camera), Super Res Zoom and Night Sight (low-light) while others include Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC.
Both models are available in in Clearly White, Just Black and Purple-ish colour choices and will go on sale in various markets around the world including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, US and the UK. In the US, it will go on sale through Google Fi, JB Hi-Fi and top US carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon.
