Late last month, Google unveiled a flurry of new ‘Made by Google’ products – the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones; Pixelbook Go chromebook; Pixel Buds wireless earbuds; and new Google Nest products – the Nest Mini and Nest WiFi. All the products are designed with sustainability in mind i.e. recycled materials were used in production and shipping carbon are being kept neutral.

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

The Google Pixel 4 (5.7-inch FHD+ 19:9 Always-On display; 2,800mAh battery) and Google Pixel 4 XL (6.3-inch QHD+ 19:9 Always-On display; 3,700mAh battery) arrive with Android 10 from the jump. Using a miniature Soli radar sensor, the Motion Sense feature detects all sorts of movement around the phone. This sensor applies to devices’ Face unlock feature and other quick gestures.

The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL feature a dual rear camera setup with 16MP (f/2.4, 1.0μm pixel, AF + PD, OIS, EIS, 52° FOV) + 12.2MP (f/1.7, 1.4μm pixel, AF + dual-pixel PD, OIS, EIS, 77° FOV) sensors. For taking quality pictures, the cameras combine with Google’s Super Res Zoom software and uses features such as Night shift, HDR+ and Live HDR+. Both models support 18W fast charging and Qi-certified wireless charging. They are available in Clearly White, Just Black and Oh So Orange colours.

Google Pixel Buds

Starting next year, Google’s new $179 Pixel Buds will go on sale in the US. The earbuds sport a unique hybrid design, sweat- and water-resistant build and soft-fit eartip which fits most ear types. The spatial vent at the rear reduces the effect of plugged ear feeling while the adaptive sound feature automatically adjusts the volume to suit the level of noise in the environment.

Google Nest Mini and Nest WiFi

With the Google Home and Nest now under one brand, Google has launched the second-generation Nest Mini (formerly Google Home Mini). It features twice the bass of the original (from 60-100 Hz at max volume) and the volume adjusts accordingly to match the background noise. It connects with other Nest speakers and stream transfer allows user transfer streams from one speaker to another.

The Google Nest WiFi offers twice the speed and 25% better coverage than its predecessor – the Google WiFi. It consists of the Nest WiFi router which plugs in directly to the modem and Nest WiFi point which expands the coverage of the network. It has the same speaker as the Nest Mini and offers hand’s free help with Google Assistant.
