During the week, Google announced the long rumoured subscription service for YouTube at an event in Los Angeles, California. Dubbed Youtube Red, the service costs $9.99 per month and gives access to every related content on Youtube devoid of ads.
Along with YouTube Red which has the mantra of providing the ultimate YouTube experience, the company also announced YouTube Music (formerly the YouTube Music Key) which will comes with a dedicated app and full subscription to Google Play Music. It will slot in along with the other YouTube products – YouTube Kids and YouTube Gaming.
The YouTube Red Membership is available on all platforms (desktop & mobile web, iOS, Android and others) as well as anywhere the Youtube account is signed in. Asides access to content without ads, it also allows playing videos in the background and saving videos offline for viewing later on mobile devices – phones and tablets.
Google is also introducing original contents series under the YouTube Red Original brand (movies and series) but will be available by the beginning of next year; this will feature new, original shows and movies from some of the biggest Youtube creators.
The ten confirmed movies and shows are Scare PewDiePie, Sing It, Lazer Team, A Trip to Unicorn Island, 360 Project from MatPat of Game Theory, Single by 30, Fight of the Living Dead, I Am Tobuscus, an Untitled CollegeHumor project and Untitled Joey Graceffa project.
YouTube Red is launching in the US on October 28th and more countries will be added over the coming year. YouTube Music is also tagged as coming soon in the US and will expand to more countries in 2016.
