As we edge closer to the end of the year, Google has released its annual top trending list across various categories in different regions of the world. The Google Year in Search 2017 examines the search engine’s trends data to see what the whole world is searching for.
In Nigeria, the late Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya and inevitable ‘ASUU strike’ tops the list of most searched people and events or stories. The uncertainty around the health of country’s president got people asking ‘Is Buhari Dead?’. People also searched Google for the Fast and Furious 8 (aka Fate of the Furious of F8) movie which was a major box office success and Nigerian rapper, Olamide’s popular street anthem – WO.
On the global scene, the devastating Hurricane Irma came top in the list of searches and global news. Despacito, Ariana Grande and IT are the most searched songs, musicians or bands and movies.
People around the world also searched about Meghan Markle (Actor), iPhone 8 (Consumer tech), French Election (Elections), How to Make Slime (How To), Stranger Things (TV Show), Matt lauer (people), Wimbledon (global sporting event), chicken breast recipe (recipe) and Tom Petty (losses).
