Huawei has re-launched the Honor 6X smartphone globally at the CES 2017. The Dual camera smartphone is the third official Huawei device to go on sale in the US and pre-orders began starting January 4 with sales expected to commence on January 15th. In Europe, sales commenced on January 4th.
Sadly, like the Samsung Galaxy A (2017) series, the 6X also arrives with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box (with EMUI 4.1). The silver lining is the Honor 6X Android 7.0 Nougat update has been scheduled for the second quarter of this year (Q2 2017). The update will be bundled with Huawei’s latest custom interface – the EMUI 5.0.
Available in Gold, Grey and Silver colours, the highlight of the Honor 6X is the Dual Lens camera technology (12MP + 2MP) – one lens captures images and the other detects the depth-of-field while the PDAF auto focus technology also provides a DOUBLE shooting experience. The device records 1080p videos at 30fps and no support for 4K recording.
The 6X has a 5.5-inch Full HD display with Eye Comfort Mode, an Octa-Core Kirin 655 processor, 3GB or 4GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB built-in expandable storage (eMMC 5.1) and front 8MP camera. The 3340mAh battery onboard guarantees up to 2.15 days of battery life and takes about 2.5 hours to charge fully.
In Europe, the Honor 6X will be sold on Amazon and Huawei’s official store for European countries – Vmall.eu. It is available via the company’s online store – Hihonor.com/us and can also be bought from retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy & NewEgg. Pricing starts at $249 for the 3GB RAM & 32GB storage option.
