Alongside the Honor 6A, Huawei also announced the launch of new voice calling tablets under the Honor Play series. Dubbed the Honor Play Tab 2, the slate comes in two variants: 8- inch and 9.6-inch screen sizes (display), Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE (connectivity) and features a 7.95mm thin metal unibody design.
Pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat OS with EMUI 5.1, the Honor Play Tab 2 relies on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 mobile platform paired with either 2GB RAM with 16GB built-in storage or 3GB RAM with 32GB built-in storage. Both storage options are expandable up to 128GB via microSD.
Photography is handled by a rear facing 5MP AF camera and a 2MP front facing camera. All 4G LTE models come with dual SIM slots (hybrid) and other connectivity options include – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/A-GPS and Bluetooth 4.1. The whole shebang is powered by a 4,800mAh battery.
The 8-inch version has a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, measures 211.07 x 124.65 x 7.95 mm, weighs 350 grams and uses earpiece for voice calling, while the 9.6-inch version also has the same screen resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, measures 229.8 x 159.8 x 7.95 mm, weighs 460 grams and has hands-free calling in 4G LTE models.
Available in either Gray or Silver colour options, the Honor Play Tab 2 (8- inch and 9.6-inch) will go on sale in China on June 1. Pricing starts at CNY 799 (US$ 116), CNY 999 (US$ 145) & CNY 1,299 (US$ 188) for the 2GB + 16GB Wi-Fi, 2GB + 16GB LTE and 3GB + 32GB LTE models of the 8-inch Honor Play Tab 2.
The 9.6-inch Honor Play Tab 2 costs CNY 999 (US$ 145), CNY 1,299 (US$ 188) and CNY 1,499 (US$ 217) for the 2GB + 16GB Wi-Fi, 2GB + 16GB LTE and 3GB + 32GB LTE models respectively.
