How to Turn Off Read Receipts aka Blue Ticks on Whatsapp (Android Users)

First of all, I know this feature is so 2014 but I just have to revisit this because some of our readers requested for it.

One of the recent changes to Whatsapp brought about the Read Receipt aka Blue Tick feature which basically creates awareness when a whatsapp message has not only been delivered but also been read by the recipient.

The app in the past shows one tick mark, when you send a message; it changes to two grey ticks, when it is delivered. Now, the app shows two blue ticks when the recipient has read or viewed your message.

Fret no more! WhatsApp’s blue ticks will no longer be the issue in your communication or chat with others, but always remember if you do this, you won’t be able to see others receipts either. If you want to check when other people see your messages, then you need to allow them to see read receipts from you.

How to Turn Off Read Receipts aka Blue Ticks on Whatsapp (Android Users)

Here’s how to turn off Read receipts (blue ticks) on Whatsapp in simple steps.

    • Open your WhatsApp

    • Go-to the three vertical dots icon on the top right and tap on it.

    • Now go to the Settings option

    • Tap on Account

    • Tap on Privacy .

    • Un-check Read receipts.

NB: For now, this is only possible for Android users, and only if you manually update the app via the WhatsApp website.

By doing all that, this will disable the blue ticks on WhatsApp; this means you can now enjoy your privacy and start ignoring messages as you like on the messaging platform. This feature could potentially roll out to Blackberry, iOS, and other OS platforms.
