HP has announced the successor to the HP Elite x2 1011, to be able to compete with other enterprise offerings like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. Known as the HP Elite x2 1012, it will be available in the US starting January 2016 but pre-orders open on November 23rd for a price starting at $899 including the travel Keyboard and HP Active Pen with App Launch.
The HP Elite x2 1012 is entirely silent because the company has decided to go with a Fanless design which means good riddance to bad noise. Also to suit enterprise users, certain components of tablet are serviceable like the memory, storage and battery despite being built-in.
The enterprise tablet measures 8.1mm thin, weighs about 2 pounds (about 0.9kg) has a built-in kickstand with 150-degrees of adjustability, a 12.5-inch HD anti-glare display for usage in varying lighting conditions and being a convertible tablet (2 -in-1), it can be used alone as a touchscreen tablet or as a laptop with the keyboard attached.
The HP Elite x2 1012 is available in varying configurations but the entry-level model has 4GB of RAM, 128GB of Solid State Storage (SSD) and an Intel Core M3 Skylake processor. There is the option to choose up 8GB RAM, up to 512GB of storage and up to Intel Core M7 processor. There are two types of keyboard in offering – basic travel keyboard and an Advanced keyboard.
The slate has other accessories including HP Active Pen with App Launch as a standard feature; full sized USB ports including USB Type C and USB Type A. It comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 OS as well as all of its best features which includes Cortana, Continuum, Windows Store and Microsoft Edge. HP promises up to 10 hours of battery life.
Eagle-eyed observers has noticed the HP Elite x2 1012 is actually the HP Spectre x2 with added features and functions for enterprise users. It comes with a CNC-processed Aluminium unibody design and aluminium kickstand and options smartcard readers and fingerprint scanners.
