HTC has announced a cheaper variant of the HTC One M8 which has the same all-metal unibody design but comes with lesser power than the flagship. The Taiwanese company is expected to phase out /cease producing the One M8 and replace the line with the One M8s.
The HTC One M8s has the same dimensions as the One M8 but is 0.2mm thicker; the device retains the Duo camera setup but this time with a 13MP sensor; the 32-bit Quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor has been replaced with an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor. Asides these changes, others are pretty much the same.
The One M8s sports a 5-inch (1920 X 1080) Full HD display, powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 process with Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB space of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot which allows for storage expansion up to 128GB.
The main camera is a Duo camera setup, it uses 13MP camera with 28mm lens, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash; and a front facing 5MP camera f/2.8 aperture and 33.7mm lens. both cameras are capable of recording 1080p videos. Connectivity options on the device pretty much remains the same – WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS and 4G LTE.
The HTC One M8s runs Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with HTC Sense UI ontop and is backed by a 2840mAh battery which is the same on the HTC One M9 and better than the 2600mAh on the One M8. It measures 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.55mm in dimensions, Weights 160 grams and has the front facing Dual front-facing stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers and HTC BoomSound technology.
Like the HTC One M8, the One M8s would be available in the UK for £379.99 ($564) in Gold, Silver and Gunmental Grey colour options. The device would also be available in other European countries at a later date.
