Huawei recently unveiled its new Balong 5000 Modem at its 5G Launch and Pre-MWC 2019 briefing in China. The multi-mode modem is an integral part of the company’s plan for 5G smartphones which are expected to make their debut starting at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.
The Huawei Balong 5000 is currently described as the world’s most powerful 5G modem. It also the first single-chip multi-mode modem that supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, and first to fully support both Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) 5G network architectures.
The modem can achieve peak download speeds up to 4.6 Gbps on sub-6Ghz and up to 6.0 Gbps on mmWave. It supports a broad range of 5G products such as 5G modules, home broadband devices, vehicle-mounted devices and smartphones.
The company also announced the Huawei 5G CPE Pro router, which is powered by the Balong 5000 Modem. It can support both 4G and 5G networks, and with Wi-Fi 6 technology, it deliver speeds up to 4.8 Gbps to homes and medium-sized businesses.
Huawei’s upcoming 5G Foldable smartphone is expected to feature OLED display panels (8-inch & 5-inch) – made by Chinese display maker BOE and will be powered by the 5G-ready Kirin 980 SoC.
