Huawei G628 with 64-bit MediaTek SoC pops up in China

It’s not a common sight to see Huawei smartphones powered by other chipset other than the company’s Kirin chipset. An interesting Huawei G628 has popped up in China and it would be powered by a 64-bit Huawei MT6752 SoC. The device is expected to launch in the Chinese market and could potentially debut in other markets but there is no information on that yet.

The Huawei G628 is the first the company’s first 64-bit smartphone using a MediaTek SoC (the metal clad Huawei G7 is the first from the company). The device is for those who want a mid-range smartphone with a 64-bit architecture and LTE connectivity.

Specs-wise, the Huawei G628 features a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB space of internal space, a microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, front 2MP camera and 4G LTE connectivity.

It supports Dual SIM functionality and runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS with Emotion 2.3 UI ontop. The 64-bit Mediatek MT6752 Soc uses a 1.5GHz octa-core cortex-A53 CPU. You could as well wonder why the company did not take advantage of the 64-bit architecture and pre-load the device with Android Lollipop OS. Though the battery capacity is not stated, it would have the ‘Ultra power saving mode’ for batteries and come with a more privacy oriented ‘Child Mode’.

The Huawei G628 supports network band which are compatible with China Mobile Networks (TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE) for now but a more international version which supports the TDD option could be available later this year.

It’s expected to be priced around CNY 1000 (around $160 or €135). We will definitely keep our ears to the ground for this.

Thanks for the tip.
