At a dedicated event yesterday, Huawei announced a new flagship device in the Honor series -the Huawei Honor V8. Now on pre-order in China, the metal-clad phablet will go on sale next week (May 17th) in China and there are up to six colour options available – Ceramic White, Champagne Gold, Gray, Ice Silver, Platinum Silver and Rose Gold.
One of the highlight of the Huawei Honor V8 is the presence of the same Dual Rear Camera (RGB and monochromatic) as the Huawei P9. It sports two rear facing 12MP cameras with dual-tone LED flash, Laser AF, f/2.2 aperture and 6P lens. The front selfie camera is a 8MP snapper with f/2.4 aperture.
Sporting a full metal body build, the Honor V8 sports a 5.7-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD display with 2.5D Curved Glass ontop and is backed by a 3500mAh battery with support for quick charging aided by a 9V/2A quick charger. The standard model has a (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display.
Under the hood, the device relies on the Octa-Core Kirin 950/ Kirin 955 processor with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, 4GB of RAM and either 32GB/64GB built-in storage space. It packs a rear placed 3D fingerprint sensor, dedicated key on the right side for intelligent shortcuts and Hybrid Dual SIM slots (nano + nano/microSD) with the other supporting up to 128GB cards.
The Huawei Honor V8 supports 4G LTE, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS connectivity options. It is also equipped with USB Type-C for transferring data and charging, NFC support for Huawei Pay and Hi-Fi sound with a Smart PA amplifier for quallity audio.
It runs EMUI 4.1 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and the smartphone box can also be used as a VR headset when needed. The Honor V8 with FHD display and 32GB built-in storage space but no NFC costs CNY 2299 (US$ 352); the middle model with similar specs adds more network support and NFC for CNY 2499 (US$ 383).
The top shelf Huawei Honor V8 model with Quad HD display, 64GB built-in storage space and NFC costs CNY 2799 (US$ 429). No word yet on availability outside the home country.
