Few days after announcing the Honor 8, Huawei has debuted a new China-exclusive mid-range smartphone – the Huawei Maimang 5. It is one of the few devices from the Chinese company which skips on using its home grown Kirin chipset and succeeds last year’s Maimang 4.
The Huawei Maimang 5 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 processor clocked at 2.0GHz with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB built-in storage space. It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and an all metal body build with diamond cut edges and 2.5D Glass.
For photography, the main camera is a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with three axis OIS, dual tone flash, 6P lens, PDAF and Hybrid AF. The main camera is capable of shooting 4k videos at 30fps. The front camera is a 8MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture and beauty 2.0 for selfies and video chats.
The Huawei Maimang 5 uses the USB Type-C Port, has Dual SIM slot and fingerprint scanner, supports 4G+ connectivity and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with EMUI 4.1. A peek inside shows a 3340mAh battery which is listed to provide up to 82 hours of continous music playback time and 15 hours of HD video playback time.
The Maimang 5 is available from at JD.com, Huawei mall, Lynx store and Suning for a price tag of CNY 2399 Yuan (US$ 360) for the 3GB RAM model and CNY 2599 (US$ 389) for the 4GB RAM model.
