Huawei has unveiled its new Mate 30 smartphone series – the Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 Pro 5G and Porsche Design Mate RS at an event in Munich, Germany. All models come pre-loaded with EMUI 10 (based on open-source Android 10), however, they arrive without any Google app or service on-board which the company couldn’t license from the tech giant due to current restrictions in the US.
Priced starting at EUR 799, the Huawei Mate 30 has a 6.62-inch Rigid OLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution, in-display fingerprint scanner and 4,200mAh battery. The Mate 30 Pro, which uses Huawei’s new Horizon display with 88-degree ultra-curves, sports a slightly smaller 6.53-inch Flex OLED display with 18.4:9 aspect ratio, virtual keys for dual side control, in-display fingerprint scanner, 3D face unlock and comes with a EUR 1099 (4G) and EUR 1,199 (5G) price tag.
On the inside, the 4G models are powered by the Kirin 990 SoC while the 5G models are based on the Kirin 990 5G SoC. Both the Mate 30 (4,200mAh battery) and Mate 30 Pro (4,500mAh battery) have USB 3.1 Type-C port and support 40W Huawei SuperCharge wired fast charging, 27W Wireless Huawei SuperCharge and updated Huawei Reverse charging.
The Mate 30 has a LEICA triple camera system with a primary 40MP (f/1.8) SuperSensing Camera with enhanced RYYB sensor, 16MP (f/2.2) Ultra-wide camera and an 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) Telephoto Camera for 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom. The front notch houses the 24MP (f/2.0) selfie camera with pro-bokeh effect and AI beautification algorithm.
On the other hand, the Mate 30 Pro has a LEICA quad camera system with 40MP (f/1.8) Cine Camera, 40MP (f/1.6, OIS) Supersensing camera, 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) Telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom, and 3D Depth Sensing Camera for pro-bokeh and professional portrait. It is equipped with a 32MP (f/2.0) selfie camera with with pro-bokeh effect and AI beautification algorithm and 3D Depth-Sensing camera for 3D face unlock.
The phones have a hybrid, dual SIM tray which accepts either two nano SIMs or a nano SIM and NM card (up to 256GB cards) and users will have to turn to the Huawei App Gallery to download apps. The Huawei Mate 30/Mate 30 Pro (8GB + 256GB) comes in Classic Black, Cosmic Purple, Emerald Green and Space Silver while the 5G model comes in Forest Green and Orange Vegan Leather edition.
The exclusive Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS (12GB + 512GB) has the same specs as the Mate 30 Pro and comes in either Black or Red colour with premium leather finish. Pricing starts at EUR 2095.
