Huawei has released a new cheaper and mid-range variant of the Mate 40 smartphone in China. The Huawei Mate 40E is powered by the Kirin 990E 7nm 5G SoC – the processor used on last year’s Mate 30E Pro 5G – and comes pre-loaded with EMUI 11 (based on Android 10 OS) with Huawei Mobile Services on top.
The Huawei Mate 40E slots between the Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, under-display fingerprint scanner, USB-C port, and 13MP (f/2.4) selfie camera in the top-left punch-hole notch. Power is supplied by a 4,200mAh battery with 40W fast wired charging, 40W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging.
On the rear, the ring-shaped Leica-certified cameras include a 64MP (f/1.9) primary camera paired with 16MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto (OIS, 3x optical zoom) and laser focus sensors. The Mate 40E is available in two RAM and storage configurations: 8GB + 128GB (CNY 4,599/US$ 705) and 8GB + 256GB (CNY 5,099/US$ 785). It is available starting March 18 in Black, Silver and White colours.
The company also release a cheaper variant of the Mate 40 RS Porsche Design which will go on sale around the same time. It comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage combo and costs CNY 10,999 (US$ 1,690).
