Prior to the official launch of the Huawei Mate 9 and its Limited Edition Porsche Design variant, there were rumours of a Pro variant. Along with original model(s), the company has also announced the previously rumoured Huawei Mate 9 Pro in China.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a bit identical to the ‘luxury’ Porsche Design Mate 9 and borrows the design cues and some of its specs; however, pricing is a tad more affordable compared to it. The device sports a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD AMOLED screen and either 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
The device packs 64GB or 128GB built-in storage, runs Android 7.0 Nougat OS with Emotion UI 5.0, and powered by the most powerful Hisilicon Kirin processor yet – the Kirin 960 SoC. It packs Dual Leica Camera lens setup (20MP + 12MP) and a front facing 8MP camera.
Also, the fingerprint sensor is now located on the front and the display is curved on both sides like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. A 4000mAh battery completes the whole package. In comparison, the original Mate 9 has a 5.9-inch Full HD display, 4GB RAM/64GB storage space and rear placed fingerprint scanner.
The base Huawei Mate 9 Pro model with 4GB RAM/64GB model costs CNY 4,699 ($690) while the higher-end model costs CNY 5,299 ($775). There is no word on availability in other markets asides China for now.
