Less than a week after Samsung unveiled its much-anticipated Galaxy Fold, Huawei has followed suit with the launch its first 5G, Foldable smartphone – the Huawei Mate X at the MWC 2019. It is priced steeply starting at EUR 2,299 (~USD 2,600) and will go on sale in the middle of the 2019.
The Huawei Mate X has a 6.6-inch (1148 x 2480 pixels) 19.5:9 OLED display and a 6.38-inch (892 x 2480 pixels) 25:9 rear display. The device folds out into a larger 8-inch (2480 x 2200 pixels) 8:7.1 OLED display and the ‘Falcon Wing’ folding hinge design ensure a smooth and flat finish.
The smartphone measures 5.4 mm when unfolded and 11 mm when folded – this is 6 mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Fold. It is powered by the Kirin 980 7nm SoC with Dual NPU and Mali-G76 MP10 GPU paired with Balong 5000 5G modem. It is the world’s first smartphone to support NSA & SA network architecture, which means it is ready for the next stage of 5G deployment.
It is equipped with three Leica cameras – a primary 40MP (f/1.8) camera, 16MP Ultra Wide Angle lens and 8MP (f/2.4) Telephoto lens. The smartphone captures selfies with the camera on rear display and the fingerprint sensor is embedded into the side-mounted power button.
