Huawei has announced its next generation foldable smartphone at an online event in China. The Huawei Mate X2 has a new, much improved multi-dimensional hinge which puts it in the league of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2, due the company ditching its accustomed out-folding approach for its inwards folding approach.
Unlike the original Mate X and last year’s Mate Xs, the Huawei Mate X2 has a bigger 8-inch (2480 x 2200 pixels) OLED 8:7.1 main display which fold in-wards into a 6.45-inch (2700 x 1160) OLED display with 21:9 aspect ratio. Both screens have 90Hz refresh rate (30Hz lower than the Galaxy Z Fold 2), however, the former has 180Hz touch sampling rate while the latter has a 240Hz touch sampling rate.
The phone is equipped with a quad-rear camera system consisting of a 50MP (f/1.9, OIS) RYYB main sensor paired with 16MP (f/2.2, OIS) ultra-wide, 12MP (f/2.4, OIS, 3x optical zoom) telephoto and 8MP (f/4.4, OIS, 10x optical zoom, Support AF) periscope sensors. The front is adorned with 16MP (f/2.2) wide-angle selfie camera and the fingerprint sensor is embedded on the side.
The Huawei Mate X2 comes preloaded with EMUI 11 (based on Android 10) and depends on a 4,500mAh battery with support for 55W super-fast charging. The rest of the specs includes USB Type-C (audio and charging), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. Pricing starts at CNY 17,999 for the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage while the 512GB storage with the same RAM cost CNY 18,999. It arrives in four colour choices – Black, Crystal Blue, Crystal Pink, and White.
