At the MWC 2015 earlier this year, Huawei announced the Huawei Mediapad X2 to succeed the the Mediapad X1 but the company did not announce the Mediapad M1 successor – the Huawei Mediapad M2.
The Huawei Mediapad M2 was unveiled in Paris earlier last month (May) but it is not until now we have an official announcement and availability to all users. The tablet is powered by the in-house made 64-bit Hi-Silicon Kirin 930 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz paired with Mali T628 MP4 GPU and is available in Gold and Silver colour options.
It sports a 8-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with a pixel density of 400ppi. 2GB or 3GB of RAM is available to handle tasks and there is 16GB or 32GB space of internal storage for files. There is also a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 128GB).
The Huawei Mediapad M2 excels in the camera segment with a 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies; which is almost the same as you will find on some smartphones today. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with EMUI 3.0 ontop, supports 4G LTE connectivity in some models and is backed by a 4800mAh battery.
The tablet measures 7.8mm in thickness (full dimensions – 214.8 x 124 x 7.8mm) and weighs around 330 grams which is lighter and a little bit slimmer compared to its predecessor. Its Aluminium body build gives it a premium look, would have a Wi-Fi only and a Wi-Fi + LTE model.
The Wi-Fi only model of the Huawei MediaPad M2 costs $311 while the Wi-Fi and LTE model costs $389. The tablet would be available in China, Western Europe and South Pacific. Other regions to get it later includes Russia, Japan, Northern and Eastern Europe.
