Most of the top mobile device maker offer payment services for their device users. Apple has the Apple Pay and Samsung the Samsung Pay; these services are available in some part of the world including China. Huawei is looking to join the Chinese party with the Huawei Pay.
At an event launched recently, Huawei and China UnionPay announced a partnership agreement which would bring about the birth of a new payment service – the Huawei Pay, which should launch in April. The service will allow China UnionPay card holders make their purchases through their smartphones.
The Huawei Pay makes use of Near-Field Communications (NFC) technology but is not the first local service to do so. It promises the provision of extra security and compatibility with cloud services, support for token technology and interbank networking. The service will connect all the ATMs throughout mainland China.
Competing in the local scene gives Huawei Pay an edge over the Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, however, the service still has offering from other local tech giants and retailers such as Baidu and AliBaBa. Judging by Huawei’s reach, the new payment service is expected to be a success in China.
Huawei is expected to reveal more information about the new payment solution when the Huawei P9 will go official on April 6th.
