Alcatel has announced a new 8-inch Android tablet with LTE connectivity and voice calling support, the Alcatel Hero 8 at the IFA 2014 in Berlin. The tablet is set to compete against the Lenovo Tab S8.
The Alcatel Hero 8 features a 8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (Full HD) and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT8392+ processor clocked at 2GHz with ARM Mali-450 MP4 GPU, 2GB of RAM and either 8GB, 16GB or 32GB built-in expandable storage space. In the camera segment, there is a rear facing 5-megapixels camera and a front facing 2-megapixels camera.
Connectivity options on the device includes Micro SD card slot, Micro USB port, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, IR Blaster, NFC, 4G LTE Cat. 4 (up to 150Mbps download speed). The Wi-Fi is Miracast-certified, for the IR Blaster there is a deicated TV Mate app for controing devices at home and there is a HDMI port/output which allows the device to be mirrored on a TV.
The Alcatel Hero 8 measures 209 x 122 x 7.3 mm in dimensions, weighs 310 grams in size, runs Android 4.4 kitkat OS out-of-the-box and backed by a 4060mAh battery which should last some hours of usage. The device would be available in September but no pricing details announced yet.
