Sony took the wraps off its latest Xperia devices, the flagship Sony Xperia Z3, the mini – Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Sony Xperia Z3
The company took the wraps off its next flagship Sony Xperia Z3, with top notch specs and the accustomed Water proof and Dust resistance certification. The device retains the IP65/68 certification, the same rating as that on the recently launched Sony Xperia M2 Aqua.
The Sony Xperia Z3 features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) TRILUMINOS display and is backed by X-Reality for mobile picture engine. Under the hood is a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
On the rear is a 20.7-megapixel camera with LED flash and Exmor RS sensor and a 2.2-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS/ EDGE, A-GPS, 3G, 4G LTE (for select markets), 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro-USB.
The Sony Xperia Z3 measures 146.5 x 72 x 7.3mm, weighs 152grams and runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. The device is powered by a 3100mAh battery which is tipped to provide 19 hours of talktime and 429 hours of standby time. The device is available in Silver green, Black, White and Copper colour options.
The Xperia Z3, XperiaZ3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact comes with the PS4 Remote play feature which allows users stream their PS4 games to their smartphones over the home Wi-Fi network. The feature will full roll-out in November and a DualShock 4 Wireless Controller and GCM10 Game Control Mount is required to play the game.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is the not so mini variant of the flagship Xperia Z3 flagship. The device supports Single SIM and IP65/IP68 ratings for dust-proof and waterproof certification.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact features a 4.6-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) Triluminos display with X-Reality engine. Under the hood is a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage and a microSD card slot for expansion (up to 32GB).
On the rear is a 20.7-megapixel camera with LED flash and Exmor RS sensor and a 2.2-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS/ EDGE, A-GPS, 3G, 4G LTE (for select markets), 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro-USB.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact measures 127.3×64.9×8.64mm, weighs 129 grams and runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. The device is powered by a 2600mAh battery; which provides 14 hours of talk time and 920 hours of standby time. The device would be available in Red, Green, Black and White colour options.
Sony Xperia E3
Sony announced a midranger, the Xperia E3 with the Xperia Z3 family lineup with normal specs but some interesting features. The Sony Xperia E3 is the successor to the Xperia E1 and also come in Dual SIM version with the Sony Xperia E3 Dual.
The Sony Xperia E3 features a 4.5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) IPS display with scratch resistant tempered glass. Under the hood is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz powers the handset with Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB).
The device features a 5MP rear camera along with different Sony camera apps including. Timeshift burst, HDR and Panorama. The device also has a front VGA camera. Connectivity options on the device includes 3G, EDGE/GPRS, 4G LTE (Select Regions), USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio with RDS, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS – GLONASS and 3.5mm Audio Jack.
One of the exciting features of the Xperia E3 is the ‘Shake to start’ app, it allows user customise shortcuts to access preferred apps by holding the phone and flicking the wrist.
The Sony Xperia E3 measures 137.1 x 69.4 x 8.5mm, weighs 143.8 grams and packs a 2330mAh battery. The battery is tipped to provide about 706 hours of standby time and 12 hours 20 minutes of talktime. Though the pricing details is not available the device would come in Copper, Lime, White and Black colour options.
Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Along with the three smartphones, Sony also announced a 8-inch sized Xperia Z3 tablet compact and unsurprisingly with the IP65/68 waterproof and dust resistant.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact features a 8-inch WUXGA (1920×1200 pixels) TRILUMINOS display powered by X-Reality for mobile picture engine. The device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 2.5GHz with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB).
The device rocks an 8.1MP autofocus rear camera with Exmor RS sensor and a 2.2MP front-facing camera. Camera software features includes 8x digital zoom, SteadyShot – video stabilisation, Burst mode, Object tracking – lock focus on a specific object.
Connectivity options on the device includes 4G LTE (in select markets), GPRS/ EDGE, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Asides the LTE version, a Wi-Fi only variant would also be announced.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact measures 213 x 123 x 6.4mm, weighs 280 grams, and runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. The device is powered by a 4200mAh battery which provides about 1220hours of standby time. The deviceis set to be available in Black and white colour options.
Update: While Sony has not announced the official pricing details of the devices above. The devices has been listed for pre-order on the Company’s UK, France, Germany, Italy and spain website.
