IFA 2019 has commenced in Berlin. As expected, various consumer tech brands and exhibitors have attended the event with the intention to showcase their new products or innovations. Brands such as Acer, Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, TCL and LG have made new mobile device announcements.
Sony Xperia 5
Sony kicked off its IFA event with the launch of the Sony Xperia 5. The flagship sports a 21:9 CinemaWide 6.1-inch OLED display, rear and front Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, IP65/IP68 rating for water resistance, built-in stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound and 3,140mAh battery with USB PD fast charging. Photography is handled by three 12MP snappers with 16mm, 26mm, and 52mm lenses.
It is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and features Smart connectivity to switch seamlessly between LTE and Wi-Fi. It will arrive in Black, Blue, Grey and Red colours.

Motorola One Zoom and Moto E6 Plus
The long-awaited Motorola One Zoom is equipped with a quad camera setup which consists of a 48MP (f/1.7) primary shooter with OIS, 8MP telephoto shooter with OIS and 3x optical zoom, 16MP ultra-wide camera and 5MP depth sensing unit. It packs a 6.4-inch Full HD+ OLED display, in-display fingerprint sensor, SD675 SoC, 4GB RAM/128GB storage, 4,000mAh battery with 15W TurboPower fast charger and the front notch houses the 25MP selfie camera. Pricing starts at EUR 400.
The budget Moto E6 Plus boasts of a 6.1-inch HD+ display, 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras, 8MP (f/2.0) selfie camera, rear fingerprint sensor (in the rear logo) and 3,000mAh battery. It is powered by the Mediatek Helio P22 SoC and available in either 2GB RAM + 32GB storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro
Samsung is back with a 10-inch rugged tablet for business customers in Germany. The Galaxy Tab Active Pro is IP68-rated for protection against dust and water, offers Samsung DeX support and has a protective cover which allows it withstands falls from heights up to 1.2m. Available starting October 1, the Wi-Fi only model cost EUR 599 while the LTE model cost EUR 679.
The company also announced the arrival of the Galaxy Fold into the market starting with Korea and eventually making its way to other markets such as France, Germany, Singapore, the UK and the US.
LG G8X ThinQ (V50S ThinQ 5G) and New LG Dual Screen
LG unveiled the LG G8X ThinQ (known as the LG V50S ThinQ 5G in Korea) and New LG Dual Screen smartphones at the IFA 2019. The G8X ThinQ has a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display – same as the new LG Dual Screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, 2x 1.2W speakers, 12MP (f/1.8) + 13MP (f/2.4) dual rear cameras and 32MP (f/1.9) selfie camera in the waterdrop notch on the screen.
The smartphone now connects to the upgraded LG Dual Screen through no more via USB not pogo pins, packs 6GB RAM + 128GB built-in storage (expandable up to 2TB), USB Type-C 3.1 and depends on a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
TCL Plex
Priced starting at EUR 329, the TCL Plex will be available in select European markets in Q4 2019. It packs a 6.53-inch Full HD+ Dotch display with 90% screen-to-body ratio and HDR support, rear fingerprint sensor, 48MP (f/1.8) + 16MP +(f/2.4) + 2MP (f/1.8) AI triple rear cameras and 25m (f/2.0) selfie camera. On the inside, it comes pre-loaded with Android 9 Pie with TCL UI on top and packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 mobile platform paired with 6GB of RAM, 128GB built-in storage and a 3,280mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
