Improved Google Glass Enterprise Edition Focuses On Enterprise

Alphabet’s research and development arm, X (formerly Google X) has announced the second iteration of its Google Glass with a renewed focus on enterprise usage. The new offering, dubbed Google Glass Enterprise Edition (EE), has been deployed across many factories in America and available through specialised partners such as AGCO, Boeing, DHL, and GE.

Worn comfortably like any normal pair of glasses, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition (or simply Glass Enterprise Edition) has seen a number of improvements when compared to its predecessor. It now comes with a faster processor, extended battery life (up to 8 hours), improved Wi-Fi speeds and a red indicator which shows when the glass is recording.

The camera resolution has also been bumped from 5MP to 8MP and users can now connect to other devices such as barcode scanners. Also, the glass module can be decoupled from the frame and used with prescription lenses and 3rd-party frames.

Comenting on the launch, Jay Kothari, Product manager Google said,

“Today’s announcement, which frees corporate users from keeping silent about the EE edition and opens it up to countless more businesses, is a milestone in the resurrection of a technology left for dead. This isn’t an experiment. It was an experiment three years ago. Now we are in full-on production with our customers and with our partners.”
