Infinix Hot 2 vs Tecno Boom J7: Specs Comparison

The whole of Africa and there has been worldwide coverage on the launch of the first Android One phone in Africa. Called the Infinix Hot 2, the device is not only a current media darling, it also fits the bill of latest affordable phones available in Nigeria. 

Not waxing much lyrical about the Infinix Hot 2, we have decided to pitch the device against some of the available devices in the market with similar specs, that is when the Tecno Boom J7 comes to mind. Both Dual SIM enabled phones have more than 60 percent of their specs in common, however, there are still some core features that set them apart.

Infinix Hot 2 vs Tecno Boom J7: Specs Comparison

• Display and Networks: The Infinix Hot 2 and the Tecno Boom J7 sports a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) which both result in a pixel density of about 294 ppi. Both devices support the general 2G and 3G networks with none supporting 4G LTE. 

• Processor, Memory and Storage: Unsurprisingly, both devices are powered by a quad-core Mediatek processor clocked at 1.3GHz and have 16GB space of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB more space by a microSD card slot. 

The Hot 2 is available in 1GB or 2GB variant but all the units sold so far all have 2GB RAM onboard while the Boom J7 only manages just 1GB of RAM for operations. 

• Camera: Both devices are even here with a rear facing 8MP camera with LED flash and a front facing 2MP camera. Too much shouldn’t be expected from these cameras and again their performances are not too little, so they are moderate. 

• Operating System (OS): The Infinix Hot 2 is part of Google’s Android One program which means it runs the latest Android OS (Android 5.1.1) and would gets updates directly (for 2 years) from Google when it is available. The Tecno Boom J7 currently runs Android 4.4 Kitkat OS with no word on upgrade. 

• Battery: The Hot 2 comes out on top here with a 2200mAh battery compared to 2020mAh battery on the Boom J7. The difference in battery capacity suggests the former would be on for some minutes longer when the latter has switched off.  

• Others: The Tecno Boom J7 is a music centric phone so expect it to have better audio performance than the Infinix Hot 2. The device also has smart gestures which lets you access your pre-set app by just drawing the letter on the screen. For example – M opens up Music, C opens up Camera and there are up to 8 slots to customise. 

Verdict

Now this is where it gets tricky but choices have to be made. Both Infinix Hot 2 and Tecno Boom J7 smartphones share very similar features in some aspects but the Hot 2 comes out on top in some of the other categories where they differ. 

In making the final judgement, you have to key in the fact that the Boom J7 with 1GB RAM costs as much as N26,000 while the Hot 2 with 2GB RAM goes for N19,500.
