Infinix Zero 3 vs Zero 2: What has Changed

Almost six month after Infinix announced the Infinix Zero 2, the successor has arrived in form of the Infinix Zero 3. The company claims the Zero 3 is truly its first flagship and the specs listing agrees with this justly. Briefly, we will be looking at what and what has changed between the Infinix Zero 3 and Zero 2.

Infinix Zero 3 vs Zero 2: What has Changed

Display, Design and Dimensions

The Infinix Zero 3 has a metal body build; sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD), Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and a pixel density of 441ppi. The Infinix Zero 2 on the other hand has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the front and a pixel density of 294ppi. The body has an aluminium metal frame and Kevlar back cover.

Infinix Zero 3

The Infinix Zero 3 is thicker and heavier than the Zero 2 with a dimensions of  154 x 76.7 x 7.85mm and weight less than 180 grams while the latter measures 140 x 70 x 6.7mm and weighs just 118 grams in size.

Processor, Memory and Storage

The Infinix Zero 3 is backed by an octa-core Mediatek Helio X10 processor clocked up to 2.2GHz with PowerVR G6200 GPU and 3GB of RAM, while, the Infinix Zero 2 is backed by an octa-core Mediatek MT6592 processor clocked at 2.0GHz with Mali-450 MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

Internal storage option is still either 16GB or 32GB which has a microSD card slot to go along for storage expansion purposes.

Camera

The Infinix Zero 2 sports a 13MP ISOCELL camera with Samsung S5K3M2 sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 0.5s AutoFocus; and a front facing 5MP camera with 85-degree super wide angle lens. While that is no pushover, the Infinix Zero 3 take things further with a 20.7MP camera with Sony IMX230 sensor, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) and Dual-Color LED flash. The front camera is 5MP snapper with Front LED flash.

Operating System (OS)

There is no official info yet on upgrade to the current Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, but the Infinix Zero 3 fares better with Android 5.1 Lollipop OS while the Infinix Zero 2 boots Android 4.4 Kitkat out-of-the-box.

Networks and Connectivity

The Infinix Zero 3 supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks while the Zero 2 supports only 2G and 3G networks. There is a LTE version of the Infinix Zero 2 which was launched in some markets like Indonesia but this model is not available in Africa. However, both devices have the same standard connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, micro USB v2.0 and GPS with A-GPS.

Battery

Battery life is one area Infinix Mobility worked on with the Zero 3 not forgetting the general complaint by most Zero 2 users. The Infinix Zero 3 derives energy from a moderate 3030mAh Li-po battery (non-removable) with fast charging feature. This is better than the 2300mAh battery on the Infinix Zero 2 which is also non-removable.

Verdict

A wide gap of changes in features and specifications has obviously happened comparing the Infinix Zero 3 to the Infinix Zero 2.

* The Zero 2 could still be an option for some who want something cheaper but the specs are no longer up-to-date.

* The Zero 3 might be heavier, thicker and more expensive but it makes up for this with improved processor performance and power, better battery life and 4G LTE connectivity.
