Photo-sharing website, Instagram has announced the platform now has over 400 million monthly active users. This comes less than month after Facebook saw up to 1 Billion users in one single day (on August 28th) and Whatsapp crossed the 900 million monthly active users mark.
The important milestone for Instagram was posted on the company’s official Blog; the service currently has less than 25% of its users from the US with over 75% of them coming from outside the US. Most of the new users added come from both Europe and Asia with; Brazil, Japan and Indonesia has the most newest Instagrammers.
Instagram was launched around 5 years ago, so reaching the 400 million MAU mark in that duration is definitely a milestone and it has also managed to rack up 100 million monthly active users in less than a year considering it had 300 million MAUS as at December 2014.
The service currently see over 80 million photos and videos posted daily and the most followed accounts during this period are now-retired footballer – David Beckham from the UK, Real Madrid Midfielder – Toni Kroos, T.O.P from South Korea, Raffi and Nagita from Indonesia and Caitlyn Jenner from the US.
