Following the launch of the Messenger Lite app for Android; Facebook has announced Marketplace, a new and convenient way to discover, buy and sell within one’s community. The new feature is no different from what the likes of eBay, Olx, Vconnect, Craiglist and Gumtree offers, with its buying and selling feature.
Limited to Android and iOS devices and eligible to only users above the age of 18 years of age, visiting Marketplace to view items to sell or for sale, is as easy as tapping the new Shop icon at the bottom of the screen on the Facebook mobile application.
Sellers list up their wares – product photo, name, description and category as well as the price and location. Buyers only need to use the search tool for what they are interested in, message the seller and negotiate a price. Unlike eBay, Facebook doesn’t facilitate the payment or delivery of sold/bought items.
Facebook Marketplace will begin rolling out over the next few days on the Facebook app for Android and iOS. It will be available in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. More countries are expected to join the list in coming months and the desktop version is also expected to be announced soon.
