On the back of the release of the Facebook Messenger Lite app for Android users in emerging markets, Shazam has jumped on the bandwagon this week with a Lite version of its official app. The Shazam Lite is small in size (about 1MB) and requires less storage space and mobile data.
Despite the small footprint of the Shazam Lite app compared to the original version (which could take up to 30MB space), it offers the core feature which is to ID songs for downloading or listening later. Users can also Shazam music offline and save the most recent search result.
Commenting on the launch, Head of Android Engineering at Shazam, Iordanis Giannakakis said;
“We’re focused on providing Shazam in areas where connectivity is poor and available devices may be limited. Shazam Lite was built from the ground up with listeners from these regions in mind and it aims to bring the core, ‘magic’ Shazam experience to them.”
The Shazam Lite app is available for free on the Google Play Store for devices running Android 2.3 and above. Users in India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Philippines and Vietnam will get the English version while those in Venezuela the Spanish version.
