Introducing the Pipo Work W4, a $81 Windows Tablet

Chinese gadget maker (OEM), PIPO in collaboration with Intel has announced a $81 (499 Yuan) priced Windows 8 tablet dubbed the Pipo Work W4 obviously for the chinese market. The talking point is its dirty cheap price; backtrack some years ago would we have thought we would see such a lowly priced tablet?

It is no news that Google’s owned Android raised the bar with its $150 priced tablets and after then we have gotten to see Windows tablets also cross that landmark with the $120 Priced Toshiba Encore Mini. Until recent times, the Windows OS wasn’t free for OEMs creating mobile and tablet sized devices due to its imposed licensing fee. On Google’s side, the platform is free thus the reason for many OEMs churning out different devices. Now that Microsoft has relaxed it stance on license fee, Pipo has smashed the record further with its new offering.

The specs aren’t really changing to be honest but the price are dropping. The Pipo Work W4 features a 8-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display, powered by an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core Bay Trail processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 2MP front camera and a front facing VGA camera. Other specs includes – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, stereo speakers and a 4500mAh battery powers the tablet.

Unlike the Toshiba Encore Mini which is available in several markets, the Pipo Work W4 is announced for the Chinese market only for now. But wit its enticing price bracket don’t be surprised it the tablet shows up in your neighbourhood with a slightly increased price (local taxes and subsidies included).
