Is Blackberry really getting there with BB10 smartphones?

The year 2014 reminds us all of 2007, a starry year which produced proficient gadgets such as Blackberry Curve 8330 and the rise of iPhone in the same year it also debuted, a move which inevitably gave birth to the development of touch screen devices. Fast forward 7 years and this year has metamorphorically improved on those setup. The competitive nature has also helped us seen the very best from manufacturers.

A year which has produced devices such as Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and the likes. Some companies have been waxing stronger in the industry (iPhone) while some that can’t keep up with the trend has fallen off the rail, Some have been slapped with a reality check and now they are back upping their game (Blackberry) much to the advantage of end users which gives them variety of choice to choose from.

Apple released a brand new device iPhone 6 with a distinct design and a premium design while also wetting appetites with the release of iPhone 6 Plus (a product it once detested) . On the other end, Blackberry is determined to keep wowing us with amazing intellectual products in the coming year and they have started teasing us with what to expect from products such as Blackberry Classic which is a redefinition of its game and also Blackberry Rio which has been rumoured to be the upcoming Blackberry Z20

Lets compare how the first generation of Blackberry and iPhone has compared to their newest editions according to Dailydot. Irregardless of the love iPhone devices has undoubtedly garnered over the years it will be absurd to neglect the fact that Blackberry has also made a great impact in the industry.

Battery life
iPhone : 250 hours (standby), 8 hours (talk time)
iPhone 6: 250 hours (standby), 14 hours (talk time)

BlackBerry Curve 8330: 264 hours (standby), 4.5 hours (talk time)
BlackBerry Classic : 365 hours (standby), 17 hours (talk time)

Comparing the talktime of BB curve to that of iPhone is disrespectful considering the fact that most BB users were always looking for a power outlet to charge their phone. But this time around, Blackberry Classic beat its greatest competitor hands down both in standby and talktime.

Winner: BlackBerry

Screen
iPhone : 3.5 inches, 320x480px, (165ppi)
iPhone 6: 4.7 inches, 750x1334px, (326ppi)

BlackBerry Curve 8330: 2.5 inches, 320x240px, (160ppi)
BlackBerry Classic : 3.5 inches, 720x720px (294ppi)

iPhone has always gained advantage over Blackberry with high-resolution screens despite Blackberry’s improvement, iPhone outshined it in this department.

Winner: iPhone

Processing power
iPhone : 412 Mhz ARM 11 CPU, PowerVR MBX GPU
iPhone 6: Apple A8 (1.4GHz dual-core CPU, Power VR GX6450 quad-core GPU)

BlackBerry Curve 8330: 312 MHz CPU
BlackBerry Classic : Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon (Dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU, Adreno 225 GPU)

This is where competition brings out the best in producers. Both producers have given us unimaginable processing power we could have wished for but no benchmark test will dare compare Apple’s A8 chip against Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon. Undoubtedly, iPhone takes it all in this category.

Winner: iPhone

Camera
iPhone : 2 MP, 1600x1200px
iPhone 6: 8 MP, 3264x2448px (rear), 1.2 MP 720p (front), dual-tone LED flash

BlackBerry Curve 8830: 2 MP, 1600x1200px, LED flash
BlackBerry Classic : 8MP, 3264x2448px (rear), 2.0 MP 720p (front), LED flash

The fact that both manufacturers remarkably improved on previous features goes a long way to show that you don’t throw away what you had for what you have. Instead, you capitalise on it for something greater. In one word this is a draw.

Winner: Draw

Features
This is where all the oozes are pulled out in terms of hardware and features. What advantage does one have over the other. Mistakes have been made, Lessons have been learnt, corrections has been applied. There obviously is no rating, so you go for your preferred choice over the other.

iPhone 6: Touch ID fingerprint sensor, NFC (Apple Pay), 3G, 4G LTE

Blackberry Classic : Touchscreen, optical trackpad (replaced trackball), NFC, 3G, 4G LTE

Winner: Arguably, Blackberry Classic has come to stay. Aside the fingerprint sensor which obviously is not enough to convince me yet,the Classic rides on a roller coaster sliding victory with features much more enough to convince me.

It is safe to say that Blackberry Classic is an instant classic that will go head to head with any top smartphone. It is with much joy that Blackberry listened to the cries of its consumers and the shortcoming of its previous products but that isn’t to say that iPhone 6 is still the best Smartphone we have seen yet thanks to its large financial ability on its already well established iOS platform. But yet, Blackberry is getting there with BB10.

It is time for you to launch your comments in the comment section below and voice your opinion on which you would rather stick to.
