Sometime last month, Reliance Jio unveiled the JioPhone 2, successor to last year’s JioPhone. The entry-level device still runs KAI OS and has the same RAM, storage, battery capacity, connectivity features, physical QWERTY keyboard and cameras as its predecessor.
Sporting a new body design, the JioPhone 2 packs a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, 4-way navigation bar and full QWERTY hardware keyboard, Dual SIM slots, 512 MB of RAM, 4GB built-in expandable storage, NFC, GPS and 2,000mAh battery. Photography is handled by a rear 2MP and front 0.3MP (VGA) camera.
The device is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and supports 4G LTE (Cat. 4) connectivity with support for LTE (Band 3, 5, 40). It also supports voice commands, VoLTE, VoWiFi and 22 Indian languages including Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati and Nepali.
The JioPhone 2 is priced at Rs. 2,999 (~ $43) and available on Jio.com via a series of flash sales. The first sale saw the device sell out in minutes and the second sale is scheduled for August 30. Users with other feature phones can exchange their phone for the original JioPhone for an effective price of Rs 501 (~ $7).
