Rakuten KOBO Inc the makers of KOBO eReaders has decided it would be looking to end its sojourn in the Android tablets world and simply focusing on its eReaders and apps. According to the The Bookseller, the company would be focusing on selling three key e-Reading devices.
The announcement comes from the back of a successful launch of its new waterproof eReader, the Kobo H2O. According to the CEO Michael Tamblyn, the total number of pre-orders for the H2O marks the highest the company has ever received for any of its device. However, he also revealed tablet devices were no longer a focus area for the company.
In a market dominated by Amazon, Kobo joins the likes of Barnes and Hook which dropped making it own hardware and instead teaming up with Samsung for the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook. Focus will shift to allow proper concentration on selling the – Kobo Touch, Aura and the H2O.
Amazon still makes its own devices which also serves as a platform to purchase not only from the company’s eBook store but also Android apps, music, videos and more. The company now plans to focus on it readers and make its app available across different tablet or other platforms.
