Kodak, an iconic brand in the photography industry, is pushing once again into the crammed smartphone industry with its latest offering – the Kodak Ektra. The brand has teamed up with UK-based Bullitt Group, the same manufacturer who built the brand’s first ever smartphone – the Kodak IM5.
Staying true to its heritage, the high-end Kodak Ektra is named after the classic Ektra camera released back in 1941 and uses a retro camera-like design. Kodak describes the ‘photography-first’ device as a unique hybrid of photography innovation and DSLR functionality that puts creative control in your hands.
It features a huge 21MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), HDR Imaging and 4K Video capture. The camera has a dedicated shutter button, advanced set of software features and settings for photo and video editing.
The Kodak Ektra packs a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, Deca-core Mediatek Helio X20 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB built-in expandable storage space and a moderate 3000mAh Battery.
It sports a front placed 13MP camera for selfies, premium metal body frames, USB Type-C port for charging and a black faux leather rear finish. The default picture editor on-board is Google’s Snapseed app and one of the other spotted feature is the built-in photo prints app.
The Ektra will be on sale in the UK (and Europe) by December for €499. The company will also be offering a range of genuine leather accessories options to choose from and no word yet on any potential global launch.
