As Expected, Kodak has taken officially announced its first smartphone ever and it has a simpler name than I expected – the Kodak IM5. The Android OS based smartphone was developed in collaboration with Bullitt Mobile (Bullitt Group) the same company which develop smartphones by CAT.
Kodak is a well established brand name with photography and the Kodak IM5 is a upper mid-range device with some added imaging software embedded. The IM5 runs Android 4.4 Kitkat OS which is being promised to be upgraded to Android Lollipop soon. The UI is basically simplistic in nature and those expecting a stock-looking interface would be disappointed.
Spec-wise the Kodak IM5 uses a 5-inch (720 x 1280 pixels) HD display, powered by an Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor which clocks at 1.7GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB space of internal storage. There is also a microSD card slot which aids storage expansion upto 32GB.
There is a rear facing 13MP Autofocus camera with LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera. Basically the IM5 makes taking, making, sharing and printing photos eaiser. There isn’t much camera features as was expected and there is another appstore pre-installed alongside Google Play store.
The Kodak IM5 supports Dual SIM functionality, weighs 140 grams but there is no word if the device supports LTE connectivity. The device would be available in Europe by the end of Q1 2015 for €229 and would be available later in the US where it would cost $249.
