Kyocera, the brand behind two generations of soap washable smartphones (DIGNO Rafre & Rafre), has launched the Kyocera Torque X01, a new super rugged, military grade flip phone in Japan. The device is said to be the first ever to meet the 18 US Military’s MIL-STD-810G procurement standards.
The Kyocera Torque X01 can also survive up to 1.8m drop test onto a steel plate and concrete. It is also dustproof (IP6X) and waterproof (IPX5/IPX8). It also has a large embossed touch keys that can be operated on even when wearing gloves.
The device features a 3.4-inch FWVGA LCD display, 1.11GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 13MP main camera with PDAF and HD video recording, Dual front-facing speakers with high audio, expandable storage space (up to 32GB), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and 4G LTE support.
Also, the clamshell device has a special app, using multiple sensors for jobsites and outdoor activities, to provide useful environmental information such as weather, altitude and barometric pressure. This data is accessible on the outer display of the device or via scheduled audio notifications.
Available in Red and Silver colours, the Kyocera Torque X01 will go sale in Japan starting this month (March) and will be offered by Japanese service provider KDDI Corporation.
