Kyocera has taken waterproof smartphones to another level by announcing the world’s first soap-proof smartphone – the Digno Rafre. The device will be available only in Japan starting December 11th exclusively from KDDI for a price tag of JPY 57,000 (USD 460). Available colour options includes – Cashmere White, Coral Pink and Marine Navy.
The Kyocera-made Digno Rafre is obviously Soap-Proof (as shown above) but the company suggests only using Foam soaps all over the body rather than Bar ones. It is also shock resistant, waterproof (IPX5/8), dustproof (IP5X), warm waterproof i.e below 43-degrees Celcius and is complaint with the MIL-STD-810G standard for extreme situations.
The device sports a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD TFT LCD display with DragonTrail X Glass protection and the screen can be operated on even when wet. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 2GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage space.
In the camera segment, there is a front facing 2MP camera for video chats and selfies; and a rear facing 13MP camera with LED flash. Connectivity options on the Digno Rafre includes 4G LTE/WiMAX 2+, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC and Mobile Wallet. VoLTE compatibility is also confirmed.
Measuring 144 x 71 x 10.1mm in dimensions and weighing 155 grams, the device has a microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB, runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and is backed by a 3000mAh battery which takes up to 2hours+ to charge fully.
