According to a statement made by the Permanent Secretary of the State’s ICT Ministry, Mrs Nike Animashaun, the state government came up with the plan to promote science and technology as well as encouraging the youth to embrace the medium.

The first phase of the Wi-Fi rollout would start out at parks at first in three strategic locations – Alausa (Ikeja), Oshodi and Ajegunle. The statement however didn’t clarify if the service would be available free or it would be a paid service.

At the same event, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Adebiyi Mabadeje said;

“In line with our ministerial responsibilities and mission statement of employing science and technology in all activities towards improving the quality of life of Lagos residents and transforming Lagos into a developed industrial and modern city of international statute, the state has leveraged on science and technology to improve service delivery, especially leveraging on ITC to strengthen our governments capabilities and enable the state to serve residents better.”

Around February, Lagos State Government launched 100 fully air-conditioned Metro-Bus with Wi-Fi services, SMS Alerts, and security cameras that live-feed directly to security agencies.
