LG has unveiled plans to launch its first 5G smartphone at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in Barcelona. The Korean company is also looking to partner with major network operators, especially those in areas where 5G service will be available prominently later this year.
The LG 5G Smartphone is based on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform – which promises up to 45% better performance and will pack a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support. It is currently rumoured to be the LG V50 ThinQ 5G and will launch alongside the LG G8.
The smartphone will also feature a ‘Vapour Chamber’ which is about 2.7 times bigger and will contain double the liquid of that used in the LG V40 ThinQ. LG could also launch its new 5G phone under a new branding and a recent roadmap confirms the LG G8 will infact not support 5G and will be the last from the flagship G series, as the V series will now become the premium.
Late last year, LG and Sprint confirmed plans to launch Sprint’s first 5G smartphone by the first half of this year. Fellow smartphone makers such as Huawei, OnePlus, Samsung and Xiaomi – all have plans to launch their respective 5G smartphones sometime this year.
