LG and Google announce Global Patent cross-licensing agreement

South Korean company, LG and Google have today jointly announced that both parties have entered a Global patent cross-licensing agreement which will cover a wide range of development and technologies. 

Commenting on the new development the Executive Vice President and head of the LG Electronics Intellectual Property Center, J.H Lee; “LG values its relationship with Google, and this agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to developing new products and technologies that enhance consumers’ lives,”.

Commenting for Google, the Deputy General counsel for patents at Google, Allen Jo said: “We’re pleased to enter into this agreement with a leading global technology company like LG. By working together on cross-licenses like this, companies can focus on bringing great products and services to consumers around the world.”

Both companies emphasised that this agreement builds on the long-standing strong alliance between LG and Google. The agreement would cover ‘a wide range of products and technologies’ and apply to already existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

This latest deal is a win-win for both LG and Google; the former needs all the aid it can get to constantly rival Samsung in the Korean market while the search giant will be very reluctant to lose a key manufacturing partner and user of its mobile OS.
