LG Donates 2000 Smartphones to Ebola Eradication Cause in West Africa

LG this week has also joined the fight against Ebola, the deadly virus which until now has no vaccine. The company has announced it would donate 2000 smartphones towards the United Nation’s effort to contain and eradicate the deadly Ebola Virus.

The donated smartphones from LG will be provided to healthcare and other key personnel dispatched by the UN in the affected areas where they are urgently needed. The smartphones will allow for fast and seamless communication between the teams on the ground, focusing on medical data gathering, monitoring and planning, LG said in a statement.

The donated smartphones would be distributed through the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

“We hope that our contribution will make a difference as the UN and NGOs fight on the front lines to improve healthcare, food security and sanitation in areas affected by the Ebola epidemic,” said Choong-hak Lee, senior vice president and head of LG’s corporate social responsibility efforts.

“This endeavor is representative of LG’s ongoing mission to use its technology to contribute toward resolving global issues”, he continued.

Similarly, Samsung also donated 3000 smartphones said to worth around USD$1,000,000 to combat the deadly virus. The smartphones would be distributed through UN’s OCHA division to 60 Ebola medical clinics in West Africa – Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
