LG has officially unveiled its next flagship smartphone, the LG G4 at different venues in New York, Paris, Singapore, Istanbul, Seoul and London. The South Korean company focused on three aspects of the smartphone – the display, camera and the design.
The LG G4 comes with a slightly curved body – ‘Slim Arc’ with a 3000mm radius; the Slim Arc offers a better grip and 20% more durability than a flat smartphone in face-drop circumstances. It come with a genuine leather back finish which is also one of the selling point of the device. There will also be a removable plastic cover option with either Metallic Gray and Ceramic White options.
The phablet sized LG G4 sports a 5.5-inch (2560 X 1440 pixels) QHD resolution display with a pixel density of 538ppi and has a contrast ratio of 1500:1. The company says it is an improvement over the LG G3’s display in the aspects of Contrast (50% higher), Color reproduction (20% wider) and Brightness (25% improvement).
Under the hood, it is powered by a 64-bit Hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor (2 cortex A57 cores and 4 cortex A53 cores) clocked at 1.8GHz. LG claims it worked with Qualcomm in ensuring the cores perform at a highest level and even touted it to beat the Samsung Exynos 7420 in terms of daily tasks.
The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB space of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot onboard for storage expansion which supports up to 2TB via microSD card. Users would also get 100GB of GoogleDrive storage free for two years. Connectivity options includes – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, 4G LTE (LTE Cat.6) and GPS.
The camera is another strong point of the LG G4, the main camera is a 16MP sensor with 1/2.6″ f1.8 lens and OIS. The front camera is a 8MP unit; both cameras record 2160p video. The camera apps has some advanced features added such as live histogram, ISO settings, manual shutter speed as well as recording RAW images. The device is also able to shoot panoramas up to 104MP.
The LG G4 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with LG UX 4.0 ontop; taking shots at Samsung, LG says it’s UI is free of bloatware. The G4 comes with removable 3000mAh battery which also supports Wireless Charging. A dedicated back cover needs to be purchased for Wireless Charging.
The LG G4 would be available in South Korea starting tomorrow for an undisclosed price. It would be available worldwide at a later date (with 180 carriers around the world offering the device). Pricing and carrier availability would be announced at local launch.
