Earlier this month, the Chemical Engineering Subsidiary of LG, LG Chem introduced a LG Hexagon Smartwatch battery; the battery as the name suggests is hexagonal in shape and is a more convenient option than the square shaped conventional smartwatch batteries.
With more and more smartwatch makers adopting a round and circular smartwatch face, they however have to contend with a square shaped battery which ends up wasting more interior space. LG Chemical looks to correct this with their Hexagonal shaped smartwatch battery.
The LG Hexagon Smartwatch battery is the first in the industry and is created in close collaboration with a top-tier technology company which the spokesman declined to mention but confirmed the company is not Apple. The battery would increase the battery life of smart watches by 25% and thereby also adding 4 hours of additional usage time compared to the conventional batteries.
The company also plans to release more batteries with different shapes for other devices, the company mentioned a L-shaped battery and a rectangular battery with hole in the middle (ring shaped). The Hexagon shaped smartwatch batteries are already shipping to global consumer electronic firms and are expected to be used in upcoming Smart watches.
LG Chem is the Chemical Engineering Subsidiary of LG, the section is responsible for the making of batteries, LCD polarizers and other components, and plastics.
