LG just recently teamed up with Google on the Nexus 5X smartphone making it the third time both companies will collaborate and from the look of things, the South Korean company will continue to make Nexus devices.
The LG-made Nexus 5X might not have the same specs as the phablet sized Huawei-made Nexus 6P but we will be doing a quick comparison of it along with the company’s flagship smartphone from the G Series – the LG G4.
LG Nexus 5X vs LG G4: Quick Specs Comparisons
Operating System
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P both ushered in Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS (stock version) with its numerous new features and lest not forget that Google provides their software updates directly. The LG G4 on its path runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with LG UX 4.0 ontop.
Dimensions and Weight
The Nexus 5X measures 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm in dimensions and weighs 136 grams while the LG G4 measures 148.9 x 76.1 x 6.3 (up to 9.8 mm thin) and weighs 155 g.
Design and Display
The LG Nexus 5X has plastic body build, the camera protrudes a little at the rear and has a fingerprint scanner below the main camera. It sports a 5.2-inch FHD (424ppi) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and oleophobic coating.
On its path, the LG G4 has a ceramic coated metal back with diamond pattern and another variant with genuine leather stitching on the back. It sports a 5.5-inch QHD IPS LCD display (538ppi) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
Processor and Memory
LG decided to ditch the over-heating plagued Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor for the more efficient but a bit less Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core processor with Adreno 418 GPU for the G4 and Nexus 5X.
For the G4, the processor is paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB space of internal storage and a microSD card slot for storage expansion, while the Nexus 5X has 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB native storage options but no microSD card slot.
Camera
The LG G4 has a 16MP main camera with Laser AutoFocus, f/1.8 aperture, Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and Dual Tone LED flash; and a front facing 8MP camera with f/1.9 aperture. Meanwhile, the Nexus 5X has a 12.3MP Laser AutoFocus camera with Dual Tone (Dual LED) Flash and 1.55µm pixel size; the front camera is a 5MP snapper for selfies.
Connectivity and Networks
Both devices supports similar connectivity and networks options; 2G/3G/4G LTE networks as well as NFC, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth. While the LG G4 relies on a USB 2.0 port, the Nexus 5X has a reversible USB Type-C 1.0 port.
Battery
The LG G4 is backed by a removable 3000mAh battery with fast charging and optional wireless charging support (Qi enabled); the Nexus 5X makes do with a smaller non-removable 2700mAh battery that also has a USB Type-C Port for fast charging but doesn’t support wireless charging.
The LG Nexus 5x does it for me; the lure of latest OS, USB Type-C and fingerprint sensor.
