LG unveiled three new smartphones in its flagship G and V series – the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, LG G8s ThinQ, LG G8 ThinQ at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona. The trio are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and come pre-loaded with Android 9 Pie.
LG V50 ThinQ 5G
With the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, the brand joins the likes of Samsung (Galaxy S10 5G), Xiaomi (Mi MIX 3 5G), ZTE (Axon 10 Pro 5G) and Huawei (Mate X) to launch its first 5G phone. LG is partnering with 10 major carriers in existing 5G markets around the world Australia, South Korea, United States and various countries in Europe.
The smartphone sports a large 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Snapdragon X50 5G modem. It has a new Vapor Chamber heat-dissipation system – which is more effective than conventional heat pipes and depends on a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
For photography, the triple main camera setup includes 16MP (f/1.9) Super Wide + 12MP (F/1.5) Standard + 12MP (f/1.5) Telephoto lens and the dual front camera setup has 8MP (f/1.9) + 5MP (f/2.2) lens. The phone has 6GB of RAM, 128GB built-in storage, USB 3.1 Type-C, Fingerprint sensor, Face recognition, Full-range Stereo Speakers, Boombox Speaker and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound.
It measures 8.33 mm thick, weighs 183 grams and conforms with MIL-STD 810G and IP68 (water and dust resistance) standards. LG has an optional cover case accessory for dual screen functionality. The case a 6.2-inch OLED display for double the view, gaming and various multi-window features.
In preparation for the rollout of the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, LG is partnering with 10 major carriers in markets where 5G service will be launched this year, including the United States, South Korea, Australia as well as several European countries.
LG G8s ThinQ and G8 ThinQ
The LG G8 ThinQ is the world’s first smartphone with advanced palm vein authentication (ToF Z Camera + IR sensors combo) and world’s first with More secure than fingerprint recognition technology, LG’s Hand ID. Crystal OLED sound allows the display acts as a speaker diaphragm.
The Z camera captures eye-catching selfies in portrait mode and calculate depth faster and more accurately than other image sensors for features such as Face unlock. The Z camera also aid the Air Motion feature which lets the user answer/end calls, take screenshots or adjust volume. It has a 6.1-inch QHD+ FullVision OLED display, Boombox Speaker, DTS:X Surround sound, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) tech support and audio tuned by Meridian Audio.
The LG G8s ThinQ has a slightly larger 6.2-inch OLED display and a 3,350mAh battery. It has some of the features of the LG G8 ThinQ including a triple rear camera setup (13MP wide + 12MP standard + 12MP telephoto), front facing 8MP camera with Z Camera, dedicated night shot mode, low-light HDR technology and Air Motion feature.
