Live images of the Intex Aqua Fish running Sailfish OS 2.0

Intex has been announced as the first licensee for the Sailfish OS from Jolla. Intex intends to release the Intex Aqua Fish, a smartphone which would run the latest Jolla’s Sailfish OS 2.0 and the name of the device obviously pays homage to the fish reference on the OS.

Jolla’s Sailfish OS is based on Meego OS which was abandoned by Nokia when it decided to jump ship to Windows Phone OS then. The OS supports Android apps as well as native Sailfish applications. 

The Intex Aqua Fish smartphone features a 4.7-inch (1280 x 728 pixels) HD display, powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB (7GB) space of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB).

Handling photography on the device is a 8MP rear snapper with LED flash and a front facing 2MP snapper for selfies. Connectivity options on the device includes – 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS/AGPS. The Intex Aqua Fish is backed by a 2300mAh battery. It is expected to go on sale in September in India for a price tag reported to be around Rs 15000.

Also at the MWC Shanghai 2015, Intex announced its first smartwatch – the Intex iRist which has 3G connectivity, can work standalone and works seamlessly when paired with a smartphone. Another device brought to the event, is the already announced Intex Aqua 4G+ but it would come with the company’s new UI.
