Taiwanese Chip maker, Mediatek has two upcoming Deca-core (10-core) processors – the Helio X22 and Helio X30. The Mediatek Helio X20 might have been the first Deca-core (10-core) processor around but certainly it won’t be the only one.
The Mediatek Helio X22 is an improved and faster version of the Helio X20 while the Mediatek Helio X30 will come with a different arrangement which would make it top the Helio X10 and Helio X20 in terms of performance.
Much is not known about the Mediatek Helio X22; it is tipped to have the same cores arrangement as the Helio X20 with some of them clocked faster but will be made using the same 20nm process.
The Mediatek Helio X30 on the other hand is a deca-core processor made using a 16nm process; it will make use of ARM Mali-T880 GPU, up to 4GB RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. The cores which are differently arranged as listed below;
• 4 x Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz,
• 2 x Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2GHz,
• 2 x Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.0GHz
• 2 x Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz
At the moment, there is no smartphone in the market with the Helio X20 on board, that would soon change though as the company will be shipping the SoC to OEM this quarter (Q3 2015). The Helio X30 and Helio X22 are not expected to arrive until early next year.
Over the past few months, the Taiwanese chipmaker has slowly warmed its ways to the hearts of both smartphone makers and the buyers.
Most of the smartphones from local brands in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and the rest of the African continents are powered by a Mediatek Processor.
